A PILOT PROGRAMME ON FAMILY GUIDANCE IN GHANA & POPULATION OF INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS IN GHANA

Ghana had independent in the year 1957 and Republic in the year 1960. At present, she has 16.0 million people of land area of 239 thousand km2. Her GDP is 6.4 billion US$. Ghana is in sub-Sahara Africa, her income group is low and Human Development Indicator among 173 countries is 134. The people who has access to human development are only 60%. The adult literacy in Ghana is 63 per cent, primary and secondary educations is about 58 percent, under-five mortality rate (per 1,000 births) is 130 and GNP per capital (US$) is 420. Real GDP per capital (PPP$) is 930. Educational expenditure as % of GDP is 1.7, military expenditure as % of GDP is 0.6 and military expenditure as % of education and health expenditure is 12. Total number of internally displaced persons in the year 1995 were 150,000 person.

Concerning the communication radio per 100 person is 27, televisions per 100 person is 1.5 and Daily newspapers (copies per 100 people) is 1.3, 1990 Analysis. In case of employment the following are the result which came out of the project carried.

1. Labour force (as % of total population) 1990 - 1992 - 38%
2. Percentage of labour force in agriculture 1990 - 1992 - 59%
3. Percentage of labour force in industry 1990 - 1992 - 11%
4. Percentage of labour force in services 1990 - 1992 - 30%
5. Women in labour force (as % of total labour) 1990 - 1992 - 40%
6. Female administrators and managers (% of total) 1980 - 1989 - 9%
7. Earnings per employee annual growth rate (%) 1980 - 1990 - 7.8%

Although Ghana has almost all the mineral resources, yet Ghanaian suffered from the economic constraints.
